Visual:

Scene slides in from the right – there are two houses in the background and two trees to the front of the screen. The characters appear on the screen in quick succession - a father stands to the left in front of a house, and a mother with two children stand in front of the house on the right.

Audio:

(Audio doesn’t start right away)


Visual:

A dollar sign appears and and moves from the father to the mother.  

Audio:

“Do you pay or receive child support?”


Visual:

Trees, houses and the children slide off the screen and the two parents move to the front centre of the screen.

Audio:

“We all want to provide the best care…”


Visual:

A thought bubble appears, linked to both of the parents, an image of the two children appears in the bubble.

Audio:

“for our children.  But you’ve probably found the system isn’t perfect.”


Visual:

Parents move towards the background and the background with the houses, trees, and children reappears.

Audio:

“For a start, payments are based on income…”


Visual:

The green trees turn to red and leaves fall, then snow appears on the trees and the roves of the houses. Snow falls, then disappears and the trees are green once more.

Audio:

“from last year, or even two years ago”


Visual:

Screen slides down with the image of a computer with a mouse arrow on the screen. Written on the screen is: “Bills to pay”.

Audio:

“And payments from Inland Revenue…”


Visual:

Typical family expenses appear one by one on the computer screen (Groceries, Rent, Power, School Uniform, Sports Fees, Music Lessons).

Audio:

“…to parents can take time, making life difficult for your family.”


Visual:

The screen scrolls down to an image on the Beehive. Beside it are the words: “Have your say”.

Audio:

“The Government is proposing some changes to our child support laws.  But first, you’re invited to have your say!”


Visual:

Mouse moves over the computer screen and the screen scrolls, revealing the words: “1 Month ago? 2 Months ago?” With dollar signs beside them.

Audio:

“Proposed changes include: Using recent income from both parents”


Visual:

The computer moves up and off the screen.


Visual:

The parents re-appear in the centre of the screen and above them appear the words: “Salary, Wages, Trust Income, Company Income”

Audio:

“Taking into account all income earned”


Visual:

The parents disappear and a line up of different men and women appear.

Audio:

“Asking employers to deduct child support…”


Visual:

Ticks “pop” up above each person’s head.  People disappear and the “mother” slides back in from the right

Audio:

“…from all liable parents, including contractors”


Visual:

A thought bubble appears beside the woman. Payment options begin to “pop” into the thought bubble with the words: “Weekly? Fortnightly? Or…?”

Audio:

“Giving new payment options to parents who receive child support”


Visual:

The thought bubble disappears and the “father” slides in from left. A thought bubble appears coming from both parents.

Audio:

“Recognising agreements between parents to pay expenses for their children”


Visual:

Words appear in the bubble describing expenses for children: “New clothes. Holidays. School Fees”.


Visual:

The bubble disappears and makingtaxsimpler.ird.govt.nz begins to drop down in a banner. The father reaches up and pulls the screens down and both characters begin to slide out of view.

Audio:

“Check out the proposals and…”


Visual:

The screen continues to be pulled down and “15 September” appears.

Audio:

“send in your feedback by 15 September”


Visual:

New Zealand Government logo appears at the bottom.

Audio:

“Thank you! Your ideas could help families all around New Zealand.”


Visual:

The Making Tax Simpler Logo slides in on a white banner from the top of the screen.
