(Relaxing instrumental background music begins)


Visual:

Transition from title – Mother and child slowly slide across the screen.  There is a cityscape in background.

Audio:

"Have you ever had to pay back…”


Visual:

The background zooms closer to highlight a building, an oversized dollar sign floats out of the woman’s handbag and into the building.

Audio:

“…any of your Working for Families Tax Credits?”


Visual:

The money dissolves in front of the building

Audio:

“Frustrating isn’t it?...”


Visual:

The lady puts her hand to her head in frustration.

Audio:

“…Especially when you’re on a budget!”


Visual:

The cityscape slides out and the characters slide to the left side of the screen.  A thought bubble appears, and dollar signs and question marks appear in the bubble.

Audio:

“The problem is, payments are based on what you think our income will be next year.”


Visual:

The money drops down and out of the bubble.  The question marks come together and fade out.

Audio:

“If things change, you can find…”


Visual:

The word DEBT appears.

Audio:

“…yourself in debt…”


Visual:

Green screen drops down and dollar signs fall down from the top of the screen.

Audio:

“Wouldn’t it be great…”


Visual:

Dollar signs fall into a perfect line, and a big tick is “drawn” on top of them.

Audio:

“…to get paid the right amount in the first place?”


Visual:

The city scape background slides on from the right and pushes out the previous frame.

Audio:

“The Government wants to make this happen”


Visual:

Characters appear from the bottom.  A speech bubble appears with horizontal lines “drawn in” one by one (four in total)

Audio:

“But before any changes are made, the Government wants to hear what you think.”


Visual:

A tan coloured colour screen drops down, and the image of a computer slides in from the right.

Audio:

“Proposed changes include:”


Visual:

Mouse moves over the computer screen and the screen scrolls, revealing the words: “1 Month ago? 2 Months ago?” With dollar signs beside them.

Audio:

“Basing Working for Families payments on recent income, instead of an estimate”


Visual:

The screen continues to scroll down to reveal the words: “Self-employed, and Option A, Option B and Option C”.

Audio:

“Giving self-employed people more options”


Visual:

The screen continues to scroll down to reveal the words “Interest & Penalties”.

Audio:

“Deducting any overpayment…”


Visual:

A line appears through “Interest and Penalties”.

Audio:

“…from future payments”


Visual:

Characters and background slides in from the bottom and a banner drops down from top that reads “makingtaxsimpler.ird.govt.nz”

Audio:

“Check out the proposals and send in your feedback by 15 September.”


Visual:

Female character reaches up and pulls down banner with “15 September” shown on it

Audio:

“Thank you!...”


Visual:

The banner stops moving and the characters continue to slide down off the screen.

Audio:

“Your ideas could help families all around New Zealand.”


Visual:

The Making Tax Simpler logo appears where the date was previously. The New Zealand Government logo appears at the bottom of the screen.
